Audi window repair: The repair process
Intact windows are essential for the safety of the vehicle and absolutely necessary for the protection of its occupants; when the vehicle is moving even a seemingly small crack can cause the window to break.
Your local Audi Dealer will check whether the damaged window can be repaired, helping you save time and money.
To restore the technical characteristics of the windshield, which contributes considerably to your safety, a damaged windshield should be repaired - or replaced, if necessary - as soon as possible.
In the following cases, the provincial regulations may insist on replacement of the window in order to pass safety inspections*:
- Stone chips with a crater larger than 5 mm in diameter
- Breaks larger than 50 mm in diameter
- Damage in the edge section of the windshield
- Damage in the field of view of the driver
A good guideline for rapid examination as to whether damage can be repaired is the overall diameter of the stone chip damage. Up to approx. 1.5 cm diameter, the probability is very high that the damage can be repaired.
* Please refer to your respective province's safety regulations.
Replacement of a damaged windshield
Before the windshield is replaced, the bodywork and interior are covered with film and the seal is cut out. After the damaged windshield has been removed, the frame can be prepared for the new windshield. As soon as the primer coat is dry, the new windshield is carefully placed into the frame using windshield sealant.

Side and rear window
A damaged side or rear window is usually due to an accident or break-in. Rear or side windows comprise single-pane safety glass, which has been heat-treated during production and completely shatters in the event of damage. For this reason, damaged rear or side windows should always be replaced
